The fifth re-accreditation of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) will take place April 8 – 11, 2018 by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., (CALEA).  CALEA sets forth professional standards and LPSO voluntarily participates as part of its commitment to provide excellent service in law enforcement.  The six basic areas that will be assessed are:  role, responsibilities and relationships with other agencies; organization management and administration; personnel administration; law enforcement operations, operational support, and traffic law enforcement; detainee and court-related services; and auxiliary and technical services.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments by calling (337) 236-5680 on Monday April 9, 2018 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  The Assessment Team will be taking comments on an unrecorded line.

An additional opportunity to offer comments is offered at the public information session on Tuesday April 10, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the LPSO Public Safety Complex located at 1825 West Willow Street, Scott, LA 70583. Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information session, are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.  Copies of the standards are available for review at LPSO.
For additional information, you may contact the Accreditation Office at (337) 236-5864.
Written comments about LPSO’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation should be sent directly to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia 20155.
