The Fleet Services Unit, supervised by Sergeant Greg Kirsch, is responsible for maintaining and servicing all motor vehicles used by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office. By providing in house maintenance on the agency’s fleet, the unit is able to accomplish specialized vehicle service at a fraction of the cost of contracted vendors while also ensuring vehicles are kept in proper condition to increase the life expectancy of the vehicle.
On average, the fleet unit services approximately 200 vehicles a month including services performed on cars, trucks, motorcycles, trailers, and ATV’s. Our Fleet Unit also works closely with locally owned businesses to outsource any fabrications and parts that are needed for replacement which helps to provide efficiency for repairs.
In addition to maintaining vehicle operations, Fleet Services is also responsible for procurement of new and used vehicles, auctions of unserviceable vehicles and becoming proactive during hurricane preparations. During hurricane preparations Fleet is tasked with confirming all units (ATV’s, boats, and rescue trucks) are available if/when needed, maintaining fuel levels for fleet units, and also housing water and supplies needed for rescue efforts.
