LPSO Detectives investigate altercation, shooting

Three people are under arrest in Lafayette Parish, stemming from an altercation and shooting Sunday evening.

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on January 23, 2022, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Detectives were notified of a shooting which had occurred in the 200 block of Marigny Circle.

Investigators learned two men were involved in an altercation in which a 36-year-old victim was struck with a firearm by a suspect identified as Wilbert Sampy, 19. The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Shortly after the altercation, a second suspect began shooting at Sampy for unknown reasons. Sampy was injured during the shooting and was transported to a hospital for medical attention.

Sampy is charged with Aggravated Second Degree Battery and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm for his involvement in the initial altercation. The second suspect, 30-year-old La’stavius Holden, is charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder.

As the investigation continued, a third arrest was made in the case. Earneisha Utley, 28, was arrested and charged with Accessory After the Fact to Attempted Second-Degree Murder.

This investigation remains ongoing.
