MEDICAL

The Medical Department is under the charge of the Health Care Authority and responsible for providing health care services to the offender populations housed at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center and the Direct Supervision Unit. The department is assigned a medical doctor, dentist, physician’s assistant, health administrator, and a staff of nurses, all dedicated to meeting the medical, psychological, and dental needs of the offenders. Clerks support the department with administrative duties, such as filing and obtaining medical records and documents.

Monday – Friday:
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Location

The medical staff assesses all general requests submitted by offenders within a 24 hour period and a medical provider (mid-level or higher) is physically on site 5 days weekly to evaluate patients.

Some of the services provides are dental, medication administration, physical assessments and lab studies. The Medical Department is also responsible to ensure that any medical treatment that cannot be performed inside of the facility is scheduled and offenders are seen for proper medical treatment.

The Medical Department is currently accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).
