Specialty Teams
LPSO has various specialty teams on which deputies may serve in addition to their full-time positions. Search and Rescue, Honor Guard, Motors and the Crash Reconstruction Team are all staffed by LPSO employees who voluntarily apply or join as members trained in a specialized field.
Honor Guard
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard was formed in 2018 under the direction of Major Dondi Hardin. From parades, ceremonies and events to honoring the final memory of a fallen officer’s family, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard Team works with the highest level of professionalism, no matter what they are called to do. Elements of the Honor Guard Team are color guard, rifle party and casket detail.
Crash Reconstruction Team (CRT)
The Crash Reconstruction Team (CRT) consists of deputies who have undergone specialized training in crash investigations. These deputies respond to and investigate crashes within the jurisdiction of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office in which fatalities or serious injuries have occurred.
Motors
The LPSO Motors Unit consists of a team of motorcyclists who perform various escorts throughout the year. Escorts can include parades, funeral escorts, football team escorts, school zone enforcement, marathons and more. Members train annually in areas such as slow speed maneuvers, advanced braking techniques and group or team riding.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Search & Rescue Team is the only entity of its kind in this region. Rigorous training objectives, far reaching operational capabilities and specialized life-saving equipment enable LPSO SAR to serve as a primary responder to both man-made and natural disasters throughout the area. By partnering with other agencies such as the Lafayette Fire Department, Acadian Ambulance and civilians with special skills, the team is prepared to respond to nearly any search and rescue related emergency. The SAR team is made up of ground and air task forces, a dive team and the marine services section.
The Air Task Force is often called upon to provide air support to other operational units within the SAR team. It also supports provides air support to the SWAT team, Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division as needed.
The primary mission of the Water Task Force is marine operations to include, river patrol, dive operations and sonar operations.
The Dive Team consists of deputies who have received specialized training in water rescue operations. They conduct high risk water related recoveries and rescues to reduce the risk of injury or loss of life to citizens and law enforcement in and around Lafayette Parish.
The Marine Services Section performs boat patrols along Parish waterways to observe activities, detect hazardous conditions, rescue stranded boaters and enforce laws pertaining to unsafe boating operations and other water sports equipment.
