Visiting Friends or Family in Jail

This facility has transitioned to expand offender visitation availability by allowing the additional use of a new remote video visitation process provided by Telmate. This new visitation technology will allow for more visits at more times without the need to travel to the Visitation Center. It does not replace the current onsite visit process, but opens up the availability to visit from a remote site using the internet.

Visitor Verification

First time visitors must be verified with the Telmate system before visiting with an offender.  To become verified, visit www.gettingout.com  or access a Telmate kiosk.  (See below for kiosk locations and hours.)

Visitors may now visit with offenders in the following two ways:
Onsite: From the Visitation Center located at the

LPSO Community Corrections Campus at 100 Poydras St.

Onsite visiting hours are from 7:30am - 5:00pm Monday through Thursday, Friday 08:00am - 12:00pm. Visitation is held on the 1st Saturday of every month from 8:00am - 12:00pm. Visitation is closed on Sundays. Adult visitors must have a state recognized ID to visit. The maximum number of visitors per offender at a monitor is one (1) adult, and two (2) juvenile visitors at a time. Our space is limited, so we allow a maximum of five (5) visitors including children per offender.

All visitors and volunteers shall comply with the dress code for visitors and volunteers. The dress code shall be strictly enforced. Click here to see our visitation dress code.

In order to maintain a quiet and safe visiting area for all members of the public, the Visitation Center has rules that are posted both at the center. Visitors will be held responsible for the actions of any child under their supervision.  A posted dress code is strictly enforced. Food or drinks are not permitted inside of the Visitation Center.  If a visitor violates any rule or is disruptive in any manner during visitation, the visitor will be asked to leave and may be banned from the facility for six (6) months.

Each offender receives two free visits per week, which must be scheduled by the offender only. Any additional onsite visits may be scheduled at a cost of $0.25/minute in 30-minute blocks.

We do not allow physical contact visitation in Secure Housing environments. For contact visitation with Transitional Work Program offenders, click here (http://www.lafayettesheriff.com/uploads/W_0200_ConductofOperations.pdf

Remote: From Anywhere Over the Web

Remote (offsite) video visiting is available to friends, family, and others using a Web browser.  Video visits may be conducted from any computer with high-speed Internet, a webcam, microphone, & speakers.  Video visits are provided by Telmate and are available for $0.50/min in 30-minute blocks.

 Scheduling Visits

Once visitors have become verified, visitors may request a visit by going to www.gettingout.com or accessing a Telmate kiosk. (See below for kiosk locations and hours.)

Available visiting times may vary throughout the facility, depending on classification and housing unit. All visit requests must be confirmed before visit can occur. Offenders will not be permitted to visit during their lockdown time.
